What do Psychologist do?

Apart from assisting people with serious mental health issues, Psychologists help normal people cope better when faced with stressful or disturbing situations that can cause psychological distress. They can provide insight and help people cope with greater flexibility in situations that at first seem unmanageable. Psychologists can help individuals gain some clarity around their specific concerns or problems and help them learn new coping strategies. They help people maintain a healthy mind and improve their
overall wellbeing.

There are many different approaches Psychologists can take – both long and short term therapies are appropriate for different conditions and individuals. Karin mostly uses a Brief Therapy, Solution Focused, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy approach aimed at helping you find your inner strengths and resources and enhance your resilience in times of stress and adversity.

Why Counselling?

Living a life faced with uncertainty, worry, pain, loss, chronic stress and guilt, not to mention depression and anxiety conditions, can be overwhelming. Your thoughts, feelings and behaviours become such that you feel hopeless, stuck and not know which way to turn. Perhaps you are having difficulty coping with day-to-day activities such as going to work, enjoying leisure time and maintaining relationships. You have probably tried your very best for some time to overcome your concerns on your own or you may be finding that medication alone isn’t giving you the relief you hoped for. Perhaps you find it difficult to talk about specific problems with friends or family or don’t want to burden them with ongoing discussions about your difficulties.

If this sounds like you then you may be one of many people who is suffering unnecessarily. Counselling with a registered psychologist provides a safe, supportive and confidential environment to talk about specific problems when you don’t want to burden friends and family with ongoing discussions about your difficulties.

As a member of The Australian  Association of Psychologists Inc (AAPi), Karin is bound by a Professional Code of Conduct.
